Well, the forces of evil came together to beat me down. Ok, I played a bit part in putting those forces in action.
First, I actively participated in an anti-hydration exercise at the T.G.I.Friday's across the street from the hotel. $2 rum and cokes do down very easy. We also had a nice brazilian dinner at a brazilian restaurant and had a couple caparanias there. Long story short, I was feeling pretty good.
Until this morning.
Had to get up early to bring Travis to work at the airport - 6 am. The plan was to go right then to get in a 10 mile run, before the sun came up, at least not too high in the sky. I came back to the hotel room, "just to lay down for a minute." At 9, I looked at the clock, and thought I should get up. I looked back at the clock, and it read 10. Then 10:20. I kept falling asleep between.

So I finally got out of the room by 10:30, and went to the grocery to get sunscreen ($5) and some food and Powerade to get me going (and of course, my post-run chocolate milk!)
So, from the get go, I only had an hour, so I started targeting 5 miles, instead of 10. The run got going, 90 degrees, and barely any place to go that didn't involve sun. And a lot of it. So here I am, barely hydrated, hot sun, but I go anyway. I got to 3 miles and decided enough was enough. I wasn't sure the sunscreen I got was even working, my arms were turning a bright red. Sweat was poring from my forehead, so I was thinking of the burn I was going to get after it all washed away.

So that was a less than successful first day of vacation training program. I will keep trying.
