Cure For Laziness Step 1: Admit Your Problem » Overcoming Laziness

Was just reading this apropos blog called the Cure For Laziness Step 1: Admit Your Problem » Overcoming Laziness. In it, john asks a very pointed, very relevant question:

"What specific failure has laziness caused in your life? What goals has it prevented you from reaching?"

Wow. When I think of that, the list starts forming...

I have gained 40 pounds. How disappointed in myself am I?
I have not completed the Richmond Marathon, Atlanta Half Marathon, and there is no way I will compete in the Disney Marathon. Slippage in my plan.
There are other impacts to my financial situation, as well as my ability to complete my novel, but those are for another venue.

I can come up with all the excuses in the world - work, stress, relationship, whatever - but at the end of the day, it is my lack of personal accountability is the driving force behind it all. Even now, as I sit up late, when I should be sleeping, I make excuses, and try to justify.

So today, I am admitting I have a problem. I am lazy, and I have been procrastinating. There, it is in writing. November 27. As I look back, I am more disappointed that I had started and restarted this quest. I still may be in the somewhat denial phase, however, hoping things will correct themselves, or that a modest level of effort will straighten me up. Alas, I know intuitively that is not true, but I still hope in my heart to be that young boy that could run without effort and never gain an ounce, regardless of the mass of food he shovelled into his mouth. Now, I know I am 2,102 days from my 4oth birthday, get heartburn looking at anything unhealthy, and wonder where these aches that creep around my body came from. What a strange strange world.
